Window Preservation & Restoration
Hear me talk about wooden windows on local Madison Real Estate podcast, Real Estate in the 608 with Ben Anton!
The most energy efficient windows are the ones you already have! Wood windows were built with longevity in mind, designed to be repaired and maintained to preserve the energy efficiency and beauty of a home. The hardwoods used to build these windows are from old-growth trees, a resource that was depleted and no longer available for modern window-making. Most of the issues your wood windows have can be repaired, preserving this special resource rather than throwing it away and replacing with less rot-resistant, non-sustainable resources. A variety of techniques can be used to keep your windows functioning as originally intended. I re-use salvaged vintage glass, hardware and old growth wood whenever possible.
